Extracurricular Activities

Throughout the school year, a variety of clubs and activities are offered at St. Central High School.  We are encouraging you to take advantage of these offerings which range from tutorials, crafts, enrichment, and more.  Students are also urged to join one or more of the many organizations we have at Central High School.  These programs will look favorably on your transcript.  Some of the leading clubs and organizations are listed.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)

This organization is a state and national service club that is composed of students who are taking or have a business related course. These students participate in community service projects that help them develop competent, aggressive leadership skills and help them develop self-confidence.

FFA (Future Farmers of America)

This is a national organization of students enrolled in vocational agriculture of agri-business. FFA is an integral part of the curriculum. The organization provides opportunities for members to develop public speaking, leadership, and occupational skill through national and local contest and community activities.

Close-Up

This program is based upon citizenship education. Students participate in the annual Close-Up Program in Washington, D.C. The culmination of the year's program of study is a weeklong trip to the nation's capital to discuss domestic and foreign policy issues. The program encourages students to think critically and to realize the importance of the democratic process.  Each Social Studies teacher refers a student who has a genuine interest in Social Science issues.

Spanish Honor Society

This club is open to students who have completed one and a half years of Spanish, have an A average, and are recommended by a Spanish teacher. To encourage the study of Spanish, the organization is involved in several charitable community activities.

Interact Club

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.  Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, these students develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of:

  • Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
  • Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
  • Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
  • Advancing international understanding and goodwill
     

Spanish Honor Soceity

 This club is open to students with two years of Spanish and a 3.6 GPA in Spanish. The organization is involved in several charitable community activities.

National Honor Society

A student may apply for membership; they must be recommended and selected by the faculty. In order to be eligible for membership, students must show excellence in the following areas:

  • Scholarship - juniors and seniors must have at least a 3.6 GPA
  • Character - students should exemplify the highest standards of honesty and reliability. They should manifest truthfulness, acknowledge obedience to rules, and uphold principles of morality and ethics.
  • Leadership - the student should exemplify positive attitudes, inspire positive behavior in others, and be dependable in fulfilling a responsibility, which he or she has accepted.
  • Service - the student should work well with others, render any requested service to the school, and complete committee and staff work enthusiastically.
     

Art Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 10-12. The National Art Honor Society’s purpose is to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability in art.

Student Council

The Student Council serves as an organization that provides each Central High student a voice in the school's decision-making process. Students communicate their interests and opinions directly to their grade level class officers and to the officers of the Student Council.

Athletics

Each year students have an opportunity to participate in a number of athletic teams and events. Sports are organized at the varsity and junior varsity levels. The following sports are offered at Central High School. Tryouts are held each season.

Guidelines for Participating in Sports

Students who wish to participate in interscholastic sports must meet the following requirements:

  • Students must have a signed parental or guardian consent form before training for any such activities.
  • All students involved in the interscholastic' program must have a medical examination before training for such activities.
  • All students must be covered by insurance.
  • Students must have a 2.3 GPA. or better.
  • Athletes must be in school throughout the day of a game, practice, or rehearsal, otherwise they will not be allowed to participate.  Any exception must be approved by the principal.
  • Students who are on suspension or on probation may not participate for the duration of that period.
  • All athletes must take Physical Education I &II, Sports Medicine I&II and Health.
